Then how to spot the quality of a MBA degree? It is simple,
check accreditation, the degree programme and the business
school (it is not graduate school but business school) should
be accredited with AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business). Check whether the business school is
listed or not. Look up: http://www.aacsb.edu/accreditation/.
If it is ain't listed up there, then it is not gold standard, but
it is not necessarily crappy or diploma mill. There are other
similar good accreditation bodies like AMBA and EQUIS.
AACSB is originally for North American Business Schools,
AMBA (Association of MBAs) is for UK and it accredits
the degree not the business school like AACSB). EQUIS
is for accreditation body for continental European schools.
But nowadays, all those bodies accredit business schools
and MBA degree programmes around the world.
To learn more about AMBA see below and read the quotes:
'When a school applies for accreditation for its MBA programs,
AMBA requires that the entire portfolio of MBA programs be
put up for consideration and will award accreditation only if all
programs meet the organization's criteria (though the school
pays the same fee regardless of the number of programs being
reviewed).'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_MBAs
AMBA accredits all degrees from school and individuals
who earns the degree while the AACSB accredits research
intensiveness of the faculty of the school. In other words,
an AACSB accredited business school may run, hopefully
not, a shitty MBA programme too. So if AACSB is Gold
Standard MBA, "AACSB + AMBA" is Platinum Standard.
And there are MBA programme those are triple accredited,
that means it is not only AACSB and AMBA but EQUIS
accredited or tripled accredited. It is like Graphite Standard.
